In this lively team building activity, teams collaborate to create fun table top contraptions inspired by the one and only Rube Goldberg. The idea is to design insanely complicated machines as a way to accomplish simple tasks.
The activity begins with participants being divided into teams of 8-10 people. Each team is given a variety of materials, including pipes, cones, wooden planks, dominoes, balls, cars, and even items associated with the organization. The products can also be something that is linked to an organisation. The goal of each team is to design a chain reaction that passes over each raised platform to the next.
The teams begin by working on their individual designs in a friendly competition. Once the teams have completed their individual designs, they are then challenged to connect them together to create one massive chain reaction. This requires them to shift their mindset from competition to collaboration. They must work together to ensure that their designs are compatible and that the chain reaction triggers seamlessly.
The grand finale of the activity is a creative trigger that sets off the chain reaction. The reaction continues until it reaches a euphoric finale, making every participant hold their breath and reach an emotional release. This is a powerful moment that can be used to unveil a theme, logo, or mantra for the team for the upcoming year.
